Cairo, 7 October 2021 (TDI): On Thursday, Egypt has the 40th anniversary of the October 1973 victory war against Israel. Israel armed forces captured the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, the old city of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights in a six-day battle that began on June 5, 1967.

Minister of Defense & Military Production, Mohamed Zaki sent greetings to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the history of the October war. The Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff also greeted the military personnel and those involved in the UN peacekeeping mission at the ceremony.

October 6, 1973, 2:00 PM (Cairo time) war erupted between Egypt’s armed forces and Israeli forces, by bringing down the Bar-Lev Line (a series of fortifications). As a result, Israeli forces were forced to retreat 15 miles [15 km] east of the Suez Canal. At the same time, the Syrian army attacked the Golan Heights battlefield with Israeli forces.

The two-week war paved the way for negotiations that led to the 1979 Peace Agreement between Israel and Egypt. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has declared Thursday, October 7, as a public holiday to commemorate the October 6 war. The resolution applies to departments, organs of state, public institutions, municipalities, public enterprises, and companies in the public sector.
