Santiago, 3 September 2022 (TDI): The ECLAC Roundtable Conference on Climate Finance and the Energy Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean was held on Friday.
The event took place at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC, in Santiago, Chile.

Agenda of the Conference
The Conference invited government representatives from numerous countries in the region. Moreover, international organizations and multilateral and private financial institutions also participated in the roundtable conference.
The roundtable conference emphasized escalating actions on climate finance. It ensures activating projects and a strengthened institutional framework, ahead of the upcoming COP27.
Nigel Topping, Climate Champion COP26, stated “We need everyone to roll up their sleeves and immerse themselves in working on these issues. We hope that between now and the COP27, we can move some of these projects along to show the best of Latin America on the world stage.”
The participants of the conference exchanged their experiences. They share views on sustainable and equitable critical and strategic mineral supply chains for the energy transition. They also discussed climate finance initiatives for resilience in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The Director of ECLAC’s Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division, Joseluis Samaniego, highlighted that during the roundtable many opportunities were analyzed in the three sectors (renewable energy, mobility, and mining) taken into consideration.
