EAC 41st Council of Ministers Meeting tabled in Tanzania

Dodoma, 24 November 2021 (TDI): The East African Community (EAC) organized the 41st Council of Minister meeting through hybrid (physically and virtually) means in Arusha, Tanzania.

The agenda of the EAC meeting is to take under consideration various reports on the Audit commission Financial Year that ended on 30 June 2020. The East African Community meeting also looked over the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) application to join the EAC community. The country is hopeful for joining the East African Community.

Besides, the EAC meeting also focused on Amendments in East African Community Customs Management Act & the Treaty. States representatives also discussed strategic issues during the meeting.

Moreover, State officials discussed political matters, including Custom, Trade, Finance and Administration matters. EAC ministers also talked on reports of the EAC organ, including the East African Legislative Assembly and the East African Court of Justice.

EAC Council of Minister also considered the progress report of staff recruitment of EAC organs and institutions. Moreover, they also deliberated on reports about the implementation status of the East and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project.

EAC: A brief Introduction

East African Community (EAC) is a regional organization of six African states. Its headquarter is in Arusha, Tanzania. The population of EAC member countries is 177 million, and its GDP is $193 billion.

It promotes economic integration in East Africa. The EAC widens and deepens cooperation among member states in political, economic and social areas for mutual benefit. Likewise, it established Common Market of block in 2010.

Council of Ministers

The Council of Ministers is the primary policy-making body of the East African Community (EAC). It comprises officials from each member state. Besides, its primary function is to monitor, promote and review implementation programs of the EAC community. It also ensures the functioning of the EAC regional block.
