Donald Blome Nominated as US Ambassador to Pakistan

Washington D.C., 22 October 2021 (TDI): U.S. President Joe Biden has nominated Donald Armin Blome as the new Ambassador to Pakistan. The announcement came from the White House on Tuesday since Washington seeks to coordinate with Islamabad on Kabul’s situation in the wake of American troops’ withdrawal in August.

Following a three-year hiatus, the United States Mission in Pakistan profoundly welcomed Donald Blome’s nomination as the new Ambassador to Islamabad. The Embassy regarded Blome’s diplomatic expertise as a testament to the US-Pakistan bilateral relationship.

Donald Armin Blome, currently serving as the US Ambassador to Tunisia, is Biden’s nominee for Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan. He is a career diplomat with over two-decade experience working at key positions in the Middle East.

Donald Blome has priorly been designated at various posts, including the American Consul General in Jerusalem, US Charge d’ Affaires at the Libyan External Office, Tunisia, Director of the US State Departments’ Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs, and Political Counselor at the US Embassy, Kabul.

Since Ambassador David Hale left Pakistan in 2018, the United States Mission in Islamabad was led by Paul Jones as Charge d’ Affaires, while Angela Aggeler became the acting Charge d’ Affaires after Jones’ tenure concluded last year.

Donald Blome’s nomination comes after the withdrawal of American troops from Kabul, which eventually collapsed the US-backed Ghani’s government. Islamabad serves as a key diplomatic actor in this regard, where Washington needs Pakistan to help create an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
