Director-General ILO meets Prime Minister of Mali

Geneva, 8 October 2021 (TDI): Guy Ryder – Director-General of the International Labour Organisation met with the Prime Minister of Mali – Choguel Kokalla Maïga at the ILO headquarters.

Gur Ryder shares that he was pleased to meet PM Mali and they discussed cooperation between ILO and Mali. He further mentioned they have also discussed the importance of a human-centered recovery from the COVID-19 crises.

PM Mali mentioned that the constant threat like terrorism, violent extremism and instability in the region double by the arrival of COVID-19, during the recent UN General Assembly’s 76th session. He shared how this pandemic has affected Mali and the states of Sahel.

PM Mali said, the situation is deteriorating steadily and exceeds to the point that complete parts of the national territory are out of the control of the Government. The citizens of the state are denied basic rights. They live under the grip of terrorist and armed groups and are also denied access to basic services. Furthermore, they remain hypothetical due to the weak presence of the State.
