# Dar, Qatari Minister Discuss Regional Tensions, Stress Dialogue

**Islamabad (TDI):** Pakistan and Qatar on Monday held high-level diplomatic contacts as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi over the phone to discuss the rapidly changing regional landscape and growing tensions involving the United States and Iran.

According to Foreign Office, the two sides exchanged views on the latest regional developments and other issues of shared concern. Both leaders emphasized that dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain essential for addressing challenges facing the region.

During the conversation, the Qatari minister acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and constructive efforts aimed at easing tensions, while Dar reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to supporting peace, stability, and regional cooperation.

The discussion comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement with Gulf states amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. A day earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The premier thanked Qatar for backing Pakistan’s efforts aimed at mediation and de-escalation in the region.

The two leaders have remained in close contact over the past several days. Earlier conversations focused on the evolving Middle East situation and the need to support peace initiatives between Washington and Tehran.

Separately, Ishaq Dar met Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy in Islamabad on Monday. The meeting reviewed regional developments as well as bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Office said both sides reaffirmed their desire to further strengthen cooperation, while the Saudi envoy appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.

The latest diplomatic activity follows the conflict that erupted after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran on February 28. Tehran later responded with attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting American military assets.

Since then, Pakistan has attempted to position itself as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. Islamabad helped facilitate a temporary ceasefire and hosted senior-level talks between US and Iranian officials, the highest direct engagement between the two sides in decades. Although the negotiations did not produce a formal agreement, the ceasefire remained in place and was later extended.

Reports continue to suggest that another round of talks could take place in Islamabad, though no official announcement has been made so far. Pakistani officials, however, remain hopeful that diplomatic efforts may eventually lead to a broader understanding between the United States and Iran.
