Dar Condoles Death of Chinese Nationals in Tajikistan, in Meeting with Chinese Envoy

Islamabad (TDI): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday, reaffirming the longstanding commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation at a time of shifting regional dynamics and global uncertainties.

Dar expressed his condolences over the tragic killing of three Chinese nationals in Tajikistan near the Afghanistan border and the recent incidents in Hong Kong special administrative region.

He reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with the Chinese people and conveyed that Islamabad stood firmly with Beijing during moments of grief, underscoring the close emotional and diplomatic bond between the two countries.

Their conversation spanned ongoing economic cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), expanding trade and investment flows, regional stability, and broader international developments affecting the two nations.

Previously speaking at a Policy Dialogue on “Redefining Regional Connectivity: Pakistan-China Friendship in the New Geo-Economic Paradigm,” Ambassador Zaidong emphasized that CPEC 2.0 continues to strengthen China-Pakistan cooperation, particularly in industry, agriculture, and infrastructure.

He highlighted ongoing projects such as Gwadar Port, the Karakoram Highway, and industrial parks, noting their contributions to economic growth, job creation, and regional connectivity.

Jiang also pointed out improvements in social infrastructure, including healthcare and urban transport, as tangible benefits of the partnership.

Jiang emphasized that CPEC has delivered substantial benefits to Pakistan, including $25.93 billion in direct investments, 510 kilometers of highways, more than 8,000 megawatts of power generation capacity, and 886 kilometers of key grid networks, greatly enhancing the country’s infrastructure and industrial development.

In the meeting with Dar, Ambassador Zaidong highlighted China’s readiness to align Pakistan’s development priorities with Beijing’s long-term economic vision.

He emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration in agriculture, industry, and large-scale infrastructure, sectors he described as essential to boosting Pakistan’s productivity, employment opportunities, and economic resilience.

Both sides emphasized that the Pakistan–China relationship has stood strong through changing geopolitical landscapes.

They highlighted that their “all-weather” partnership is built on mutual respect, shared development goals, and a long tradition of supporting each other on key national interests.
