Belmopan, 19 January 2022(TDI): On January 18, Costa Rican Foreign Minister Rodolfo Solano arrived in Belize for an official visit. This is a two days official visit where the Foreign Minister will meet different officials of Belize to discuss matters of both countries’ interests.
To start the visit, Foreign Minister Solano called Belize Prime Minister John Briceño. Both leaders talked about various areas of mutu Apart from Belize Prime Minister, Solano will meet Belize Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay, the Foreign Trade Minister and Immigration, the Minister Health and Wellness, and the Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Action.
In all the meetings, the discussions will focus on important bilateral and cooperation topics. For instance, the subjects will be Belize CARICOM chairmanship, SICA, and Central American Affairs, tourism, environment, climate change, food and animal health safety, vocational-technical training, and many more.
Moreover, the Costa Rican Foreign Minister will meet Dr. Vincent Palacio, the Interim President of the University of Belize, and Dr. Collin Young, the Executive Director of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center.
Belize and Costa Rica Relationship
Belize and Costa Rica established diplomatic relations in September 1981, and last year in 2021 celebrated 40 years of cooperation. The relationship that both have is cordial and friendly. Costa Rica has its embassy in Belmopan, and Costa Rica is accredited to the Belize embassy located in Guatemala.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the fact that both countries are in the same region helps them interact frequently in the international sphere. For instance, both are members states of the United Nations(UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Association of Caribbean States(ACS), the Organization of American States(OAS).
