Costa Rican FM participated in ECLAC Conference

-

San José, 20 August 2021 (TDI): Rodolfo Solano Quirós, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica, led discussions on ways to renew international cooperation for the development of Latin America and the Caribbean at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Committee on South-South Cooperation of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which took place virtually on Wednesday and Thursday.

Costa Rica currently holds the Presidency of ECLAC’s Committee on South-South Cooperation, and as President of the Committee’s Board of Directors, exercises leadership in discussions aimed at strengthening the Committee on South-South Cooperation’s role, as a result of which it is granted the essential independence with respect to ECLAC sessions, and therefore achieves the status of a Conference as an ECLAC institution.

In these times of global crisis, the representatives of ECLAC member countries recognized the benefits of having a stronger tool that allows the area to tackle the difficulties of rebuilding after the pandemic and to continue with conformity with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

Costa Rica’s major goal is to create the circumstances for a shift in the narrative in international collaboration and to have a common voice in regional and international cooperation, particularly among middle-income nations.
