COMSTECH, University of Modern Sciences Conclude Free Medical Camp in Tharparkar

Islamabad (TDI): The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH), in collaboration with the University of Modern Sciences (UMS) of Tando Muhammad Khan, concluded a two-day free medical camp in Chachro, Tharparkar.

The camp provided healthcare services and humanitarian assistance to the local population of this otherwise remote region of Sindh province. Around 2,162 patients were treated and given medical assistance on the first day and 3,550 patients on the second day.

A team of specialist doctors from multiple departments, including ophthalmology (eye), ENT, dermatology (skin), cardiology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, general surgery, and general medicine, provided free medical consultations and treatment.

Patients also benefited from on spot diagnostic facilities, ensuring timely diagnosis and effective care. During the camp, two successful deliveries also took place.

Alongside medical services, the organizers distributed mineral water, juices, clothes, shoes, and other essential items among patients and attendants, offering additional relief to the underserved community.

The camp was organized in collaboration with Gourmet Foods, the district administration of Tharparkar, and the district health department of the government of Sindh.

Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, identified Chachro as a priority area for providing basic healthcare services and promoting health awareness.

As the camp wrapped up, COMSTECH team handed over extra medicines to the medical superintendent of the civil hospital of Chachro. This was done to support local healthcare provision and ensure continuity of care after the camp.

Local community members and district officials appreciated the conduct of the medical camp, and described it as a vital step toward reducing healthcare disparities in remote areas.
