# China Willing to Cooperate with Russia to De-escalate Mideast Situation, Says FM

**Beijing (TDI): **China has signaled its willingness to deepen coordination with Russia in an effort to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing diplomacy and multilateral cooperation as the primary path toward regional stability.

During a phone conversation on Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that Beijing is ready to continue working closely with Moscow within the framework of the United Nations Security Council.

The two sides agreed on the importance of maintaining timely communication on major international issues and making joint efforts to de-escalate conflicts in the Middle East.

Wang said that China and Russia, both permanent members of the Security Council, bear a responsibility to uphold fairness and justice on key global matters.

He called for an objective and balanced approach, urging both countries to seek broader international understanding and support in addressing the crisis.

Highlighting China’s long-standing position, Wang reiterated that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable solutions to regional and international disputes.

He warned that the situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate, with hostilities intensifying. According to Wang, ensuring safe navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz depends fundamentally on achieving an early ceasefire and bringing ongoing conflicts to an end.

Lavrov echoed similar concerns, noting that Russia is closely monitoring the worsening situation in the region. He stressed that military operations must cease immediately and that efforts should shift back toward political and diplomatic solutions aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict.

“The UN Security Council should play a constructive role,” Lavrov said, underscoring the need for coordinated international action.

Russia, he added, is prepared to maintain close communication and coordination with China, continuing to advocate for a ceasefire and a comprehensive end to hostilities.

The exchange highlights a growing alignment between Beijing and Moscow on Middle East policy, particularly their shared emphasis on multilateralism and conflict resolution through diplomacy.

As tensions in the region persist, both countries appear keen to leverage their positions within the United Nations to influence outcomes and promote stability.

The call between the two foreign ministers came at a time when the United Nations Security Council’s scheduled voting on a Bahrain-drafted resolution was postponed yet again.

The resolution seeks to get UNSC’s authorization for forceful measures to re-open the Strait of Hormuz, and has the backing of United States’ Gulf allies, especially the United Arab Emirates.

But China and Russia have strongly objected to parts of the resolution which call for enforcement measures. These objections have caused the delay in voting, which will now take place in this week.
