# China Agrees to Buy 200 Boeing Jets in Major Trade Breakthrough

**New York (TDI):** Boeing has confirmed that China has agreed to purchase 200 aircraft, validating an earlier announcement made by US President Donald Trump during his visit to Beijing.

In a statement, the US aerospace company said the trip to China had been successful and had resulted in what it called a major breakthrough in reopening the Chinese market for Boeing orders. The company said the initial commitment covers 200 aircraft, with expectations of additional orders in the future.

Boeing also thanked the Trump administration for its role in facilitating the agreement, saying it looks forward to meeting China’s long-term demand for commercial aircraft. The company’s CEO, Kelly Ortberg, was part of the US delegation during the visit.

Trump had earlier told Fox News that China’s commitment included a large order and described it as a major boost for American jobs. Speaking to reporters, he suggested that the total potential deal could eventually expand significantly if further commitments materialise.

He said the initial agreement formed part of a broader understanding that could ultimately reach up to 750 aircraft, although only 200 have been confirmed so far.

According to Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to purchase Boeing aircraft including models such as the 777 and 737, describing them as part of a broader deal to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.

China has not purchased Boeing aircraft since 2017, when a previous large order was placed during Trump’s first term. Since then, Chinese airlines have increasingly turned to European manufacturer Airbus, which has gained a stronger position in the Chinese aviation market.

Industry analysts estimate the value of the confirmed 200-aircraft deal could range between $17 billion and $19 billion, depending on the aircraft mix, with potential for higher valuation if a larger share of wide-body jets is included.

The agreement is seen as an important commercial win for Boeing, which has faced growing competition from Airbus as well as delays in production of China’s domestic aircraft program.

For China, the order helps secure future fleet expansion as domestic production from state-backed manufacturer COMAC continues to lag behind demand projections for its C919 aircraft.
