China Releases Standard Anthem Score

-

Beijing, 2 September 2024 (TDI): In a move marking the 75th anniversary of both the founding of the People’s Republic of China and its national anthem, China has released the official musical score and recording of “March of the Volunteers.”

The release, announced on Sunday by the State Council Information Office, includes comprehensive updates to the national anthem’s sheet music and various recording formats.

The newly released standard sheet music for the anthem features orchestral, wind ensemble, and piano accompaniment scores.

It brings several enhancements, including standardized cover design, title page, and publishing notation, along with unified tempo markings and standardized expression terms.

However, the melody remains unchanged from the original composition.

National Anthem

The anthem, penned by poet Tian Han with music composed by Nie Er, was a source of inspiration for Chinese soldiers and civilians during the resistance against Japanese aggression from 1931 to 1945.

It was officially adopted as China’s national anthem in 1949.

Wu Zeng, an official from the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, emphasized that the release of the standardized score and official recordings aims to reinforce the anthem’s performance standards, uphold national dignity, and bolster patriotism.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote national unity and spirit.

China’s National Anthem Law, enacted in 2017, mandates proper performance and usage of the anthem, alongside the National Flag Law and National Emblem Law, forming a comprehensive legal framework for national symbols.

The anthem is to be performed at formal political gatherings, including National People’s Congress sessions, constitutional oath ceremonies, flag-raising events, and major celebrations.

It also is to be performed at awards ceremonies, commemorations, national memorials, and significant diplomatic and sports occasions.
