China-Pakistan strategic partnership ensures regional stability

Karachi, 16 October 2021 (TDI): The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the Army Air Defense Centre in Karachi. He was there to witness the induction of the Chinese-origin High to Medium Air Defense System (HIMDAS), HQ-9/P, in the Pakistan Army Air Defense.

The HIMADS is capable of intercepting multiple air targets, beyond visual range weapons as well as cruise missiles. The system has the potential to augment the Comprehensive Layered Integrated Air Defense shield of air space of Pakistan. The HQ-9/P is a long-range, surface to air strategic missile having immaculate precision and flexibility.

A statement was issued on the behalf of the COAS, by the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR). In the statement, he enunciated that the strategic partnership and defense collaboration between China and Pakistan is an important aspect of the stability of the region.

In addition to that, the Army Chief underscored the significance of air defense and the need for a high-tech system, in that regard. It is imperative that Pakistan acquire such technology to make its defense impregnable.

Lieutenant General Hamooduz Zaman Khan, commander of the Army Air Defense Command also accompanied General Bajwa. Senior delegates from the Chinese side were also present on the occasion.
