# China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan Foster Regional Cooperation

**Islamabad, 6 May 2023 (TDI):** The 5th China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue was held today at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterating the three countries’ adherence to regional cooperation and addressing current issues.

Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari; State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Qin Gang; and Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, attended this meeting.

The insightful conversations covered a range of subjects, including engagement with politics, counterterrorism, trade, and connectivity.

The trilateral discussion gave the foreign ministers of Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan a forum for open and beneficial debate, which helped the three nations comprehend and collaborate better.

The discussions mainly focused on encouraging commerce and investment, developing regional connectivity efforts, strengthening political ties, and improving security cooperation.

In addition to expressing gratitude to his counterparts from China and Afghanistan for attending, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his country’s dedication to promoting the trilateral framework’s shared objective of regional cooperation.

He emphasized the importance of the discourse in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.

The three Foreign Ministers discussed political involvement. They emphasized the value of ongoing communication to resolve shared issues and advance understanding.

They stressed the requirement for increased collaboration in promoting amity and long-term peace in Afghanistan while upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The three nations underlined their dedication to working together to address the threat of terrorism and extremism, which continued to be a significant focus of the trilateral dialogue.

They stressed the value of intelligence sharing, border management, and coordinated measures to dismantle terrorist networks. They also agreed that improving regional security and stability was necessary for long-term success and economic growth.

The governments underlined trade and connectivity as crucial foundations of regional integration throughout the summit.

They discussed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its prospective extension to Afghanistan to enhance trade facilitation and encourage measures for regional connectivity.

All countries realized the value of enhanced connections in boosting regional economic development, fostering interpersonal interactions, and tackling shared concerns.

The trilateral dialogue also provided an opportunity to address the Afghan peace process. The Foreign Ministers emphasized the significance of an inclusive political settlement and endorsed an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.

They urged all nations in Afghanistan to engage constructively and strive for a comprehensive and sustainable diplomatic accord.

The Foreign Ministers concluded the dialogue by pledging consistent participation and cooperation. They emphasized the value of regular trilateral sessions to assess progress, identify potential areas for teamwork, and collectively address new difficulties. The three countries affirmed their allegiance to collaborating for regional peace, stability, and growth.

According to the joint statement, all three countries, Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan, remain dedicated to regional cooperation and confident that they will conquer shared challenges and create a prosperous and integrated area via joint efforts.

The trilateral discourse is essential for fostering mutual understanding, open communication, and common objectives. It will keep playing a crucial part in promoting closer ties between the three countries.
