China-Laos Railway begins trials

-

Vientiane, 21 October 2021 (TDI): The China-Laos Railway launched testing in anticipation of the railway’s inauguration. The tested train departed from the Vientiane Station, in Laos.

It is heading towards Boten, the Laos-China border town in the north. The testing will last for 18 days. Laos is a land-locked country. However, the China-Laos Railway will potentially transform it into a land-linked hub of the region.

Laos is a contiguous neighbor of China. The two have mutually beneficial bilateral ties. Lately, China has become the largest source of development assistance and investments in Laos.

Recently, China launched its first international railway network under its extensive Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The railway network will link Vientiane, the capital of Laos, with Kunming, the capital and largest city in China’s Yunnan province.

The network will ultimately connect a total of 45 stations between both neighboring countries. 20 stations will provide passenger services as well.
