# China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand Vow Stronger Joint Crackdown on Cross-Border Crimes

**Anning (TDI):** The foreign ministers of China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand have vowed to step up joint efforts against cross-border crimes, including online gambling and telecom fraud, following an informal meeting in Anning, Yunnan Province, on Friday.

The talks brought together Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Myanmar’s Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the ministers exchanged views on combating transnational crimes and reaffirmed their commitment to closer law enforcement and security cooperation.

Wang noted that China, Laos, and Thailand, as Myanmar’s immediate neighbors, understand its unique circumstances and share a strong interest in seeing the country achieve stability, national reconciliation, fair elections, and development tailored to its own realities.

Since the first four-party meeting last year, he said, Myanmar has seen gradual stabilization, post-earthquake reconstruction progress, and efforts to safeguard sovereignty and independence.

Calling for a “Myanmar-led, Myanmar-owned” approach, Wang urged support for the will of the Myanmar people, resolution of disputes through dialogue, and continued ASEAN mediation. He also emphasized making full use of regional platforms, including the four-party foreign ministers’ meeting and the wider mechanism of Myanmar’s neighboring states.

On security cooperation, Wang said the four countries had already achieved “significant results” in cracking down on cross-border crimes through coordinated border control and joint operations. But with the regional security environment still challenging, he outlined proposals to deepen cooperation: strengthening institutional frameworks under the Global Security Initiative, expanding joint law enforcement efforts, boosting judicial and capacity-building exchanges, raising public awareness, and promoting local development to eliminate the root causes of illicit activity.

The ministers agreed to intensify their fight against a range of transnational threats, from online scams to drug and arms trafficking and human smuggling, while working together to safeguard peace and stability in the region.
