Beijing (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Takeo Akiba, special adviser to the Japanese cabinet and secretary general of Japan’s National Security Secretariat, held a consultation meeting in Beijing on Monday, under the China-Japan high-level political dialogue mechanism.
During their discussions, both sides emphasized their commitment to adhere to the principles outlined in the four political documents that govern China-Japan relations.
They agreed to advance their strategic relationship for mutual benefit, enhancing high-level communication, dialogue, and exchanges across various sectors to send positive signals to the international community.
Wang, who also serves as the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the critical stage of improvement in China-Japan relations.
He urged both nations to follow the consensus established by their leaders, maintain the right course for developing bilateral relations, and foster a constructive and stable partnership that aligns with the demands of the new era, according to Chinese media.

Wang further encouraged Japan to adopt an objective understanding of China, honor its political commitments regarding Taiwan, and uphold the political foundations of their relations.
He urged Japan to take concrete steps to implement the vital consensus of viewing each other as cooperation partners rather than threats, thus promoting the steady and long-term development of their ties.
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
Regarding the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, both sides agreed to expedite the follow-up and implementation of their political consensus.
Wang also expressed hope that all parties would jointly resist non-regional forces that incite confrontation in the area and take tangible actions to uphold regional peace and stability.

Since Ishiba took office, high-level interactions between China and Japan have intensified.
Notably, on October 10, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Ishiba during the East Asia cooperation leaders’ meetings in Vientiane, Laos.
Prior to Monday’s dialogue, Wang and Akiba had a phone call on October 21.
