China issues position paper on UN Cooperation

New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): The Chinese delegation to the United Nations has issued a position paper on cooperation in the United Nations. The paper stated that the establishment of the UN has been historic for promoting peace and security in the world.

China was also a founding member of the UN charter. The UN resolution 2758 restored the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China on 25 October 1971. Under this resolution, the UN accepted its government as the legitimate authority of China to the UN.

The paper emphasized the role of the UN which has become more universal. The commitment to the peace of the world and development has also become stronger than ever before. The Chinese cooperation with the UN has increased since its restoration of the lawful seat.
This year, China is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the Chinese legitimate seat in the UN. In the 50 years of partnership, China has cooperated with the UN on poverty alleviation, food security, economic development, environmental protection peace and security.
China is committed to the values of the UN especially of multilateralism and policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states. It has been actively participating in the peacemaking missions and conflict mediation in Sudan, Israel-Palestine, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Myanmar and in the Iranian Nuclear Deal.
China has sent over 50,000 Chinese in 30 peacemaking missions of the UN since 1990. China has always been against the use of force in international relations. It is also the second-biggest funding provider to the UN peacemaking missions.
China is part of more than 20 Arms Control treaties. It is actively playing its role in arms control and disarmament in the world. China is also committed to the global fight against non-traditional security threats. It supports the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
China has been an active supporter of multilateralism. It was the first country to share the Covid-19 related information with the world. It was also the first country to provide medical supplies on the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic. China has been consistently providing vaccines to developing and vulnerable states.
China also advocates and promote human rights in the world. It has joined 26 treaties on human rights globally. China has also been an active supporter of women rights in the world.
China believes in only one system of international relations, and that is the UN centred international system. The system that emphasizes cooperation to eradicate all the problems.
The world is facing unprecedented challenges of traditional as well as non-traditional security threats. This has increased the importance of multilateralism in the world. It is because, in this globalized world, no one is safe until everyone is safe. China expressed its commitment to creating a shared future of the global community which will be based on interdependence.
