Beijing, 20 December 2021 (TDI): The United States (US) has imposed sanctions on four entities and one individual of China, on the pretext of preventing synthetic opioids and precursor chemicals from reaching its territory.
US President, Joe Biden signed an executive order on Wednesday to impose sanctions on four Chinese companies, as well as Chuen Fat Yip. The President described Chuen Fat Yip as “one of the largest, if not the largest, producer of anabolic steroids in the world.”
China has a zero-tolerance policy towards the issue of narcotics
In response, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry underscored that China has a zero-tolerance policy towards the issue of narcotics and takes strict measures to regulate anesthetics, psychotropics as well as precursor chemicals.
Wang Wenbin reiterated the stance of China in a regular press conference of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Moreover, he stated that the achievements and efforts taken by China are witnessed by the international community.
Furthermore, it is evident that China firmly opposes the erroneous acts of the US. He said that China has scheduled the fentanyl substances as a class. On the contrary, the US hasn’t taken any permanent measures in this regard, as of yet.
The US has adopted the wrong approach by sanctioning the National Narcotics Laboratory in China as well as the Institution of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Public Security as this shows that anyone can take the medicines for their illness.
The Chinese spokesperson pointed out that doing so will undermine the law enforcement cooperation on combating narcotics between the US and China. He urged the US to respect the facts and do some much-needed introspection.
The US needs to ascertain the causes of the abuse of fentanyl from within. Moreover, instead of blaming others, the US should view the efforts adopted by China in a fair and objective manner.
