China donates PKR15 million to Pakistan PM fund relief

Islamabad, 26 August 2022 (TDI): China donated PKR15 Million to the Pakistan Prime Ministers Fund relief program to help the flood victims in the country.

The All Pakistan Chinese Enterprises Association (APCEA) made the donation in the presence of Pakistan’s Federal minister of planning and development, Ahsan Iqbal.

The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan, Akhtar Nawaz was also present.

The Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Nong Rong, tweeted about the donation. The ambassador affirmed China’s support to Pakistan in rough times and in overcoming the flood disaster.

Federal Minister’s Remarks on the Donation

The federal minister, Ahsan Iqbal, extended gratitude to APCEA for the donation in a time of need.

He stated, “This year, Pakistan has received above-average rainfall in the monsoon season. Climate change has hit the country in a big way.

We are one of the lowest carbon footprint producing countries yet we are also among the top ten countries that are vulnerable to climate change”.

The Minister further talked about the recent rainfall all over the country. The Sindh province received 400% rainfall whereas; Balochistan received 370% rainfall this year. The unexpected Monsoon rain has affected the entire nation drastically.

Ahsan Iqbal remarked that China is an all-weather friend of Pakistan who always stands shoulder-to-shoulder in emergencies or calamities. The donation of Chinese enterprises speaks volumes for bonding between the two countries.

He also said that China is giving twenty-five thousand tents to provide shelter to the flood victims.  Additionally, the Red Cross Society of China has offered three hundred thousand dollars to Pakistan Red Crescent.

The minister also called the interested parties to put together a team of government doctors to treat the flood victims. He expressed that the government’s priority is to provide access to health services for the general public.

He issued these directions while reviewing the latest flood situation in the country. The Minister as Chairman Relief Committee is holding review meetings daily to observe the flood situation in the country.
