China Bans Overseas Adoption of Children

ISLAMABAD, September 6,2024 (DTI): The Chinese government has stopped the inter-country adoption of children, revoking a more than three-decade rule that was rooted in its once strict one-child policy.

The rule has gained worldwide attention since China opened its door to overseas adoption in 1992. Over 160,000 Chinese children have been adopted worldwide.

According to China’s Children International (CCI) out of the 160, 000 children, over 82,000 children mostly girls have been adopted in the United States (US).
