Rawalpindi, 22 June 2022 (TDI): Chief of the Defence Staff of Italian Armed Forces, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, called on the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, General Nadeem Raza.
The meeting took place at Joint Staff Headquarters. Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone is on an official visit to Pakistan. During the meeting, matters pertaining to mutual professional interests were discussed.
These include the further strengthening of security and defence collaboration, particularly in the domain of defence production.
Chairman JCSC on his part underscored that Pakistan and Italy enjoy pleasant relations.
The ties between the two are based on convergence on all consequential issues relating to defence, peace, and security. Along these lines, General Nadeem Raza highlighted the enormous scope for expanding the existing ties in multiple fields.
Whilst the Italian Chief of the Defence Staff on his part lauded the professionalism of the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
He alos acknowledged the sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.
Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone was also presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces, upon arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters.
Earlier, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone had also met the Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in Islamabad. The two sides deliberated upon issues pertaining to mutual interest.
In recent years, defence cooperation between Italy and Pakistan is on the rise. Though the two enjoy long-term cordial diplomatic ties based on mutual collaboration.
Italy and Pakistan have been collaborating in the fields of defence production, counter-terrorism, counterinsurgency, and regional stability and security.
Along these lines, high-level officials from both countries have travelled to undertake productive meetings to consolidate and take ahead the military and the strategic bilateral relationship.
Italy has been one of the leading western suppliers to Pakistan. Recently, the Italian defence industry has shown keenness to utilize potential opportunities in Pakistan.
