# Central Asian Presidents Honored with Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize

**St. Petersburg (TDI):** In a ceremony held on Sunday in St. Petersburg, Russia, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan were awarded the prestigious Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize, coinciding with an informal summit of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) leaders, the Kremlin confirmed.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were recognized for their “significant personal contributions” toward fostering peace and security in Central Asia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, present at the ceremony, commended the leaders for the agreements reached on resolving longstanding border disputes among their nations.

First established in Russia in 2022, the Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize honors individuals and organizations that have made notable efforts in promoting peace, dialogue, and friendship among peoples worldwide.

The award highlights the growing importance of diplomatic efforts in ensuring stability across the Central Asian region, where historical tensions have occasionally strained relations between neighboring states.

Observers noted that the recognition could serve as an encouragement for continued cooperation and constructive engagement among regional leaders.

Experts suggest that such international recognition not only strengthens the credibility of the leaders involved but also reinforces the role of dialogue and negotiation as primary tools in conflict resolution. The award serves as a reminder that long-term peace often requires sustained commitment and mutual understanding among nations.

The ceremony also underscored the symbolic value of international prizes in promoting shared ideals. While the Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize celebrates individual contributions, it reflects a broader aspiration toward fostering unity, collaboration, and goodwill among countries and communities across borders.
