Vancouver, 3 September 2021 (TDI):   On Friday, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau met with New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nanaia Mahuta, and discussed the safe transportation of Afghans.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau stated that he and Nanaia Mahuta had a meaningful discussion and that they share a common goal. He stated that both leaders are aligning their efforts around the same objectives as Five Eyes partners: secure passage for their citizens and vulnerable Afghans, stability in the region, and respecting basic human rights.

The Five Eyes (FVEY) intelligence partnership consists of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These nations are signatories to the multilateral UKUSA Agreement, a treaty for collaborative cooperation in signals intelligence. During the Cold War, it evolved as a means for monitoring the Soviet Union and exchanging sensitive intelligence.
