Canada Prime Minister on their Mexico’s relation

Ottawa, 9 October 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau; revealed that he had a phone call with the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

First, Canada and Mexico have had bi-lateral diplomatic relations since 1946; and mentions that the Canadian Government is also committed to enhance and expand its relations with Mexico

According to the Media Note, Obrador congratulated Trudeau on his reelection as Prime Minister. The two leaders agreed to explore opportunities for reconciliation with Indigenous people; which according to the summary, is a key priority for Mexico and for his country.

The summary mentions that both Mandataries; underscored the importance of the bilateral economic relationship between Mexico and Canada, anchored in the Canada-Mexico-United States agreement. They also discussed their mutual interest in ensuring that the alliance continues to provide a strong, stable framework and prosperity across North America.

According to the summary, the two Mandataries discussed the contribution of the Canadian investors to the Mexican economy in the transportation, energy, and also mining sectors; Obrador and Trudeau also committed to staying in touch. Finally, Trudeau then stated that Canada and Mexico are friends and partners.
