Brasília, 28 November 2021 (TDI): The Secretary-General of Brazil’s Foreign Affairs and Director of the Africa Department, Ambassador Fernando Simas Magalhães, met with Angola’s Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Manuel Monteiro on Thursday.

The meeting took place in Brazil where the leaders reiterated their commitment to improvise relations between the regions of South America and Southern Africa.

During the discussion, Ambassador Magalhães and Minister Monteiro also expressed contentment over the 46 year-long partnership between the two states.

While discussing the topics of mutual interest, the dignitaries reaffirmed strong judicial cooperation between the two countries and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).

Angola-Brazil Relations

Brazil was the very first state to recognize Angola as an independent state in 1975. Both states share a long history of rich culture and cordial relations. They also collaborate in the areas of health, politics, defense, and agriculture.

Morever, Brasilia serves as one of the main trading partners of Angola and many Brazilian construction companies have set up their branches in Luanda. This is so because both sides share a common domestic goal of boosting their economies.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries are based on the ‘Declaration of Strategic Partnership,’ signed in June 2010.

The Republic of Angola and Brazil also make joint efforts to arrange an international dialogue for the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), also known as the Lusophone Commonwealth.

Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP)

The Community was founded in 1996 to enhance relations between the Portuguese-speaking nations. The organization’s purpose is to promote sustainable development, enhance cooperation, and preserve the Portuguese language and culture.

Both Angola and Brazil are regarded as two of the community’s founding members, and hence, maintain extensive cooperation through the platform.
