Blinken Met with Ecuador’s President and Foreign Minister

Quito, 20 October 2021 (TDI): US State Secretary Antony John Blinken met with Ecuador’s President Lasso Guillermo and Foreign Minister Mauricio Montalvo on Tuesday. The officials exchanged views on various topics, including the state of democracy in South America, rising security threats in the region, and ways to tackle climate-related risks.

During his Ecuador trip, Secretary Bliken met with the country’s President and Foreign Minister at the Carondelet Palace, Quito. He offered the United States’ support in increasing trade and investment opportunities, promoting human rights, and tackling irregular migration in the South American region.

While in Quito, Blinken exhibited his interest in strengthening the US-Ecuador bilateral relationship on multiple fronts. He reiterated that the United States’ foremost objective is to promote democratic principles and combat security challenges across the world.

In this regard, President Guillermo committed to supporting the Biden administration in achieving these objectives and expressed his intent to build a stronger coalition with Washington.
