Belmopan, 15 January 2022 (TDI): Belize and Cuba will celebrate 27 years of bilateral relationship this year. The bilateral relationship between Belize and Cuba is a robust, deep, and fruitful partnership.
Both countries have implemented various agreements in different areas such as health, education, agriculture, and tourism. Moreover, Belize and Cuba have undertaken many high-level visits, cultural exchanges, sporting events, and diplomatic exchanges.
Regarding education relationships, the Belize Ministry of education tweeted that more than 200 Belizean students study in Cuba thanks to the generosity of their government and people. In 2020, when COVID-19 struck the world, both nations have supported each other. For instance, Cuba deployed 65 healthcare professionals to Belize to assist in the COVID-19 response.
Both countries established diplomatic relations in the year 1995 and have their embassies in their respective countries, Cuba in Belize city and Belize in Havana.
In the multilateral area, both are members of different organizations such as the Association of Caribbean States, the Organization of American States(OAS), the Group of 77, the United Nations(UN), and the Caribbean Community and Common Market(CARICOM).
Cuba
Cuba is located in the Caribbean region, is the largest single archipelago, and one of the most influential states in the region. Its capital city is Havana. The government system of Cuba is a unitary socialist Country.
The official language is Spanish, and a nation with a multicultural population. Indeed if we look at the history of Cuba, there have been migrations, forced, and voluntary migrations that made Cuba’s population very diverse.
Moreover, in its history, Cuba was influenced by many nations. First, we have imperial Spain in the 15th and 19th centuries, then the Soviet Union in the late 20th century, and finally the United States from the 19th century to the present.
Belize
Belize is located on the northeast coast of Central America, with the Capital at Belmopan. The Government system of Belize is a constitutional monarchy.
In the same way as Cuba is also a multicultural country with a diverse population. English is the official language of the Country. Furthermore, the people of Belize speak other languages such as Creole, Spanish, Arawak, and many more.
Belize was known as British Honduras until 1973 and gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1981. Nevertheless, it’s still interacting with the United Kingdom in the Commonwealth community.
