Moscow, 19 February 2022 (TDI): Russian President, Vladimir Putin, met the President of Belarus President, Alexander Lukashenko, in Moscow. The talks took place on February 18.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the development of Russian-Belarusian relations in the context of strategic partnerships and alliances. Besides, the talks focused on the problems of European security as well.

Russian President extended Warm Welcome

Along these lines, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, extended a warm welcome to the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. This is the first meeting of both Presidents of this year.

Building the State Union

Further, a collaboration between both countries has made significant progress. While building the Union State, they worked closely and prepared a list of 28 programs.

Meanwhile, there are many departments where cooperation is underway. For these reasons, Russia has also adopted the Military Doctrine and Migration Policy Concept.

Economic Cooperation

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, also highlighted that economy of both countries is developing day by day. Currently, the trade between them is worth US$35 billion and has increased by over 38 percent.

On the other hand, both states are increasing efforts in the sphere of integration. This includes income levels, jobs, and people’s standard of living. That’s why President Vladimir Putin believed that all the taken initiatives are going in the right direction.

Military Cooperation

During the talk, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that he will evaluate the military cooperation between both states as well. He also mentioned the current status of military exercises which are in the active phase.

Foundation of Russia-Belarus Relations

It is pertinent to note that the strategic relationship between Russia and Belarus is based on geography, history, and cultural links between peoples and countries along with a cooperative network between businesses. Indeed, Russia is a major trade partner of Belarus.

Further, the Russian-Belarusian ties are based on basic principles of statehood. Both countries respect each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and core interests.
