Baku, 25 November 2021 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov met with Gousal Azam Sarker. Sarker is the newly-appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Azerbaijan.

In addition to congratulating the Ambassador on his new appointment, Bayramov discussed the diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh.

POTENTIAL TO DEEPEN BILATERAL TIES

The Azerbaijani Minister acknowledged that the political relations between both nations have a tremendous potential to grow in multifarious aspects.

These include the economy, education sector, the cultural sector, and trade ties. Furthermore, he also brought to attention cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh on international platforms.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Sarker underscored Bangladesh’s interests in the further expansion of mutual cooperation on the basis of traditional bilateral ties.

Though he felt that political and cultural relations were strong, there is still work to be done in the economic sphere. Thus, he suggested newer avenues of establishing better economic relations.

Both parties also exchanged their thoughts on strengthening links between Bangladesh and Azerbaijan in certain areas. These include the areas of education, tourism, people-to-people contacts, industry, and investment.

Additional points of discussion under this exchange include the measures taken for the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) within the framework of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship. NAM is a forum consisting of 120 developing countries that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.

They two discussed steps taken in response to global challenges such as the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic; as well as Bangladesh’s stance in supporting Azerbaijan regarding its past conflicts, thus enabling strong political ties.

Furthermore, both sides also discussed the matter of cooperating with other international organizations.
