Baku, 25 November 2021 (TDI): Yesterday, on 24th November, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, met the newly appointed Finnish Ambassador to Azerbaijan—Kirsti Narinen.

Narinen is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Azerbaijan.

During this interaction, the Minister congratulated Narinen on her new post and discussed the future of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Finland.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MINISTER BAYRAMOV

Foreign Minister Bayramov raised opportunities for further enhancing relations between the two countries. He also acknowledged the previous meeting with the Finnish Minister at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Both sides agreed to increase political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Finland as they considered it necessary.

AMBASSADOR NARINEN REMARKS

Ambassador Narinen also shared remarks on her exchange with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. She noted that it was a rather interesting and fruitful meeting. Moreover, she also expressed her satisfaction in the meeting which took place in the Milli Majlis.

This was with members of the Azerbaijan-Finland Friendship Group. Specifically, Narinen mentioned Finland’s objectives in establishing as well as maintaining peace in the region.

Additionally, she implied that her country was willing to play a part in the future development of peace in the European region.

FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION

During this diplomatic exchange, both the Minister and the Ambassador discussed prospects for strengthening the bond between Azerbaijan and Finland. Mainly in the economy, energy, environment, and education sectors.

In the past, trade relations between both nations have been pleasant; however, both sides agreed there is room for further improvement.

AZERBAIJAN-FINLAND RELATIONS

Finland recognized Azerbaijan on 30 December 1991. Both established diplomatic relations in 1992. Currently, Finland has an honorary consulate in the capital. On the other side, Azerbaijan does not have an embassy in Finland.
