The Association of Football Federation Azerbaijan (AFFA) announced, on July 7, that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.Â
FIFA has begun the evaluation process for the bids to host the upcoming U-20 World Cup in 2027.
In view of ongoing reforms in football sector, infrastructure improvements, and the rising stature of Turkic-speaking nations in world sports, the football associations of both countries have collaborated to present a unified bid.
Both have confirmed their complete readiness to host the event in the best way possible.Â
But they are not alone in this
FIFA’s process for selecting a host for the U-20 cup involves multiple evaluation stages, including:
- detailed inspection of stadiums
- training facilities
- transportation systems
- accommodations
- overall safety of infrastructure.
With their joint submission, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have now officially entered into this competitive selection phase. This bid will be considered alongside others from countries such as Indonesia, Peru and various African nations who have expressed interest in hosting the 2027 tournament.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has successfully hosted several major football events including UEFA EURO 2020, UEFA Europa league final, the European U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

FIFA under-20 is a biennial International tournament featuring national teams made up of players under the age of 20 who are the members of FIFA.
First held in 1977 in Tunisia and originally named FIFA World Youth Championship, the tournament adopted its current title in 2007.
A total of 24 national teams participate in the final tournament. Of these, 23 must qualify through competitions held by FIFA’s six Confederations, while the host nation qualifies automatically.
