Azerbaijan Minister met Philippines Ambassador

Baku, 26 November 2021 (TDI): Foreign Affairs Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met the Philippines Ambassador, Maria Elena Algabre; on 24 November. The Philippines appointed Algabre as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.

Bayramov welcomed the Ambassador to the country and wished her success in her new mission. Then Bayramov expressed his content with the current relations between Azerbaijan and the Philippines.

Bayramov remarked on the importance of developing and strengthening Azerbaijan-Philippines cooperation. According to Bayramov, both countries should strengthen their cooperation in economic, trade, tourism, and other areas.

Algabre thanked the Azerbaijan Minister for the reception. She then praised also the state of bilateral relations between both countries, and relations within international organizations. Algabre then remarked on the importance of expanding cooperation.

Both discussed at the meeting, the successful cooperation and also mutual support within international organizations. The parties also noted the chairmanship of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement and the successful implementation of the initiatives that went forward.

Both parties emphasized the position of Azerbaijan as chairman of the Movement. According to the note, the position was emphasized because Azerbaijan wants to protect the interests of member states. Azerbaijan also wants to strengthen ties with member states of the Movement.

THE PHILIPPINES AND AZERBAIJAN RELATIONS

Azerbaijan and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1992. The two countries remain committed to strengthening their bilateral relations and also identifying effective means. According to the Philippines, those means would be to enhance the links within cooperation areas, at bilateral and multilateral levels.

Both countries signed a Protocol for a Political Consultations Mechanism in 2018, in Baku. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs signed the Protocol.

The Protocol represented a positive step towards the expansion of the relations. The reason is that the Protocol provides consultations between the governments for one purpose, to strengthen their bilateral relations.

According to the Philippines, their relations could be strengthened in the following areas of cooperation: political, economic, consular, cultural. Both countries seek to strengthen their cooperation in technological, and scientific areas.

Neither of them has embassies of the other in their respective territories. Azerbaijan covers the Philippines from its Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia; while the Philippine Embassy that covers Azerbaijan is in Ankara, Turkey.
