Islamabad, 31 March 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Kistafin met the Coordinator-General of COMSTECH, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary.

The meeting took place today at COMSTECH Secretariat Islamabad. The agenda of the meeting was to deliberate on the prevalent and future programs between COMSTECH and Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, the two sides held a detailed discussion about the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) 15 meeting and the International Iqbal Forum.

In addition, they also discussed the institutions’ linkages between higher education institutions of Pakistan and Kazakhstan and the Pakistan, Kazakhstan & Turkey Young Forum on Biotechnology.

The two dignitaries also agreed to promote academia and Science & Technology initiatives.
Likewise, they acknowledged continuing to conduct follow-up meetings to check the progress of these initiatives.

COMSTECH: An Overview

COMSTECH is the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC. It was established by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held in Saudi Arabia in 1981.

The Chairman of COMSTECH is the President of Pakistan. The central mandate of COMSTECH is to reinforce collaboration between the OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T).

In addition, it aims to enhance their abilities via training in emerging areas by undertaking follow-up actions and enactment of the resolutions of the OIC to draw up programs and proposals for increasing the capability of the Muslim countries in S&T.

The foremost purpose is to build and nurture a scientific culture along with using S&T as a significant contributor to socio-economic expansion and rapid industrialization.
