Ambassador Akram, UN’s Khiari Discuss Regional Peace

United Nations (TDI): Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, held a meeting with Khaled Khiari, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, to discuss critical regional issues and Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and security.

During the meeting, Ambassador Akram provided a comprehensive briefing on the current regional dynamics, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to fostering stability in its neighborhood and on the broader international stage.

He emphasized the importance of the United Nations playing a more proactive role in the peaceful resolution of long-standing internationally recognized disputes in the region, particularly in South Asia and the broader Middle East.

Ambassador Akram reiterated Pakistan’s stance on key regional challenges, including the situation in Afghanistan, where Pakistan has been actively involved in peace-building efforts.

He called for continued international support to address the humanitarian crisis and ensure long-term stability in Afghanistan.

In response, Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari commended Pakistan’s significant contributions to regional stability, particularly its efforts to support peace and security in Afghanistan.

Khiari acknowledged the importance of Pakistan’s role in advancing the peace process and discussed the progress made under the UN-led Doha process, which aims to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
