**Beijing (TDI):** Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, has been awarded the prestigious “Outstanding Diplomat Medal” by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the honorees as builders of bilateral ties, pioneers in promoting understanding of China, champions of people-to-people exchanges, and practitioners of mutually beneficial cooperation.

In his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Hashmi expressed gratitude to the Chinese leadership for the recognition and dedicated the award to his diplomatic team, family members, and officials from both countries who had contributed to strengthening Pakistan-China friendship over the decades.

Highlighting the unique character of the bilateral relationship, Hashmi noted that the two countries have consistently stood by each other in moments of challenge.

He reaffirmed that the friendship between Pakistan and China “has always been and will continue to be higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel.”

Hashmi, a senior Pakistani diplomat with nearly three decades of experience in bilateral and multilateral relations, was appointed ambassador to China in late 2023.

Before taking up his posting in Beijing, he served as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

Hashmi is noted for placing particular emphasis on youth exchange activities between Pakistan and China; an area widely seen as central to the long-term durability of the two countries’ partnership.

The award arrives at a moment of continued strategic importance for the Pakistan-China relationship, underpinned by the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and decades of close defense and diplomatic cooperation.
