Aid from Turkey remains a lifeline for Syria: UN Relief Chief

Istanbul, 4 September 2021 (TDI): Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths visited Turkey.

The UN relief chief on his visit met with Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. Martin also had a productive meeting with Turkey Government official Ibrahim Kalin, Turkish Red Crescent as well as the Governor of Hatay. During the Under-Secretary-General Visit, he also administers the Aid transport between Turkey and Syria done at the Trans-shipment Hub, close to Bab al-Hawa.

Martin in his Statement writes that he got to experience the cross-border humanitarian operations personally. The UN Relief Chief lauded the Turkish Government for their efforts towards Syrian Refugees through a systematically inspected Aid system. Concluding the visit to Turkey, Mr. Martin expressed his gratitude to the Turkish people and personnel for their generosity that is an extreme help for millions of people in Syria.
