Ahsan Urges Timely Execution of $29 Billion Projects

Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Friday instructed the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to review the timeline of projects worth $29 billion signed with investment-friendly countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Azerbaijan.

He made these remarks while chairing a review meeting with the Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) to evaluate progress on 13 directives issued by the Prime Minister for the completion of key public interest projects in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of efficient foreign investment through strategic partnerships with friendly countries.

The meeting also discussed reducing the cargo load at Karachi Port. The minister called for the development of a new freight corridor to address challenges like the port’s limited seven-hour cargo window.

He tasked the concerned authorities to coordinate with the Ministries of Commerce and Railways, alongside the Karachi Port Trust in this regard.

Ahsan Iqbal also prioritized accelerating food storage facility projects in Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur, citing their critical role in stabilizing food prices. In Islamabad, efforts to resolve hotel development issues were directed toward faster land lease auctions.

Furthermore, he called for a dedicated committee to oversee and streamline project timelines, ensuring critical infrastructure initiatives like the N25 Highway and M8 Motorway in Balochistan are swiftly executed, boosting economic development in the region.
