AfDB approves $25 million for FSDH Merchant Bank

Abidjan, 11 August 2022 (TDI): African Development Bank (AfDB) along with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will co-host a virtual side event.

The event will ponder upon accelerating the clean energy transition, and the private sector funding. Furthermore, it will also deliver on how the development finance institutions increase the support for the vision to be achieved.

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has always worked to eradicate poverty from the region. Furthermore, it also has enhanced living conditions all across the continent.

Agenda of the Event

Hence, it has announced a meeting to discuss the obstacles to advancing the clean energy transition. Along these lines, it will highlight the investment opportunities in the private sector for regional development.

This AfDB event will take place on the 22nd of August this year. About 600 million people still live in Africa without access to electricity as the Covid-19 pandemic is being contained. Consequently, there is a need for a fair and just transition towards clean energy in Africa.

Moreover, this meeting will also be addressing energy poverty in the region as the rest of the world embraces de-carbonization. Also, this conference will bring together experts from Asia and Africa both the public and private sectors.

AfDB and IFC will be joined by the development finance organizations as well to advance the sector producing energy. Adding to that, on 27th and 28th August 2022, the side event will take place.

The event will occur in conjunction with the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) which will be based in Tunis.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank, will be making a statement via a video during the side event on August 22. This will be done to emphasize the value of stable and environmentally friendly growth on the continent.

Additionally, Dr. Kevin K. Kariuki, Vice President for power, energy, climate change, and green growth, will be discussing the Bank’s strategy in Africa as well as how African nations can combat climate change and energy poverty.

Moreover, Wale Shonibare, Director of the Energy Financial Solutions, Policy and Regulation Department, will also be participating.

Lastly, Dr. Daniel Schroth, Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, will be taking part in a panel discussion about climatic financing to fill the gaps.
