Abdulla Shahid addresses Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement

Belgrade, 12 October 2021 (TDI): Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid addresses the high-Level Commemorative Meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the First Conference of Non-Aligned Countries. He is also an elected President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Abdulla Shahid showed gratitude. He commended the Governments of Serbia and Azerbaijan for co-hosting this meeting. He acknowledged that NAM is a forum for consultation and collaboration, with consistent advocacy in favor of peace, cooperation, and friendship.

He mentioned that NAM serves as a keystone of the global multilateral system. He stated there is a close relationship between the United Nations and NAM. Both aim to achieve international peace and security. He mentioned of looking forward to strong support from NAM countries to achieve high objectives of equality, peace, and security.

In the last part of his speech, Abdullah Shahid commended the Azerbaijani Chairmanship of NAM for its focus on youth. He acknowledged the establishment of the NAM Youth Network and a NAM Model simulation exercise.
