# 9th CPEC Media Forum: Strengthening Media Ties for the CPEC 2.0 Transition

**Islamabad (TDI): **The 9th China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Media Forum was held recently Virtually between Islamabad and Beijing. Centered on the objective of “Strengthen Media Cooperation, Advance the Construction of the Upgraded Version 2.0 of CPEC,” the event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan.

Key organizational support came from the Pakistan-China Institute and China Economic Net (CEN), drawing an audience of approximately 200 experts from the media, business, and academic sectors.

During the proceedings, Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, spoke at length about the unbreakable bond between the two nations. Tarar shared his personal history of involvement in bilateral exchanges, noting that perspective has been shaped by experiences as a student, a government representative and now a cabinet minister.

Tarar focused heavily on the difficulties presented by the modern digital era, specifically citing the rise of information warfare and the rapid spread of disinformation. To combat these threats, he suggested the creation of a specialized China-Pakistan fact-checking forum. This body would be tasked with identifying and neutralizing false narratives to ensure the public receives accurate information regarding joint ventures.

The Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Shezra Mansab Ali Kharal, based on her history shared some insights with youth delegations and inter-party dialogues.

Kharal highlighted China’s “win-win” model of cooperation, especially its practical engagement with the Global South, as a superior alternative to more aggressive international strategies. Kharal advocated for the implementation of shared mechanisms that would allow both countries to react swiftly to inaccurate media reporting.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong noted that since the forum was established, it has transitioned from a basic information-sharing platform into a prestigious high-level dialogue. Highlighting that the Version 2.0 phase of CPEC would provide a new spark for media partnerships, urging journalists to act as the primary storytellers of the corridor’s achievements and as guardians of the bilateral friendship.

Furthermore, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, the president of the Pakistan-China Institute, identified fake news as a significant threat to national security and global public perception. Arguing that consistent youth and think-tank exchanges are essential for maintaining strong public support.

Various delegates representing media organizations, academic think tanks and the commercial sectors of both nations engaged in detailed dialogues to formulate strategies for enhancing China-Pakistan media synergy.

These discussions focused on navigating the complexities of shifting international dynamics while maintaining a unified voice. The virtual gathering saw a significant turnout, with nearly 200 officials and industry experts contributing their insights to the program
