# 82 People Die in Texas Flash Floods, Rescue Underway

**Texas (TDI):** Central Texas already known as “Flash Floods Alley” was hit by deadly flash floods on July 6, killing at least 82 people including over 30 children, and many are unaccounted for as of yet.

Weather service did issue warnings initially for the heavy rain, however it was unexpected that the downpour will turn into a deluge.

Water-filled thunderstorms dropped at the level of 12 inches. Some sources claim over four months’ rain fell in just a few hours, limiting the capacity of locals to move early, making the situation even more devastating.

Some are calling it a historical flash flood in the state. The most deadly impact of the flooding has occurred at *Camp Mystic *summer camp; a century-old Christian girls camp along the bank of Guadalupe river.

### **Flash Floods Alley**

Meteorologists and locals alike already consider Texas a flash flood alley due to the unpredictability of weather and the state’s location between cold dry air from the north and moist, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico.

However, Friday’s rain was particularly intense because of a tropical storm which initially hit Mexico and then moved to Texas.

### **Initial Warnings and Response**

Many are raising concerns over initial warning mechanisms, and calling out the failure to install better prevention systems along the banks of Guadalupe river; expressing sorrow and disappointment over the damage that could be controlled or minimized.

People are questioning why critical administrative posts in forecast offices were vacant, and linking it to the failure in disseminating warnings to the locals.

“You will see the death toll rise today and tomorrow,” said Freeman Martin, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, speaking on Sunday.

The US President Donald Trump and other leaders from across the globe have sent their thoughts and condolences to the victims.
