# 370,000 Children Displaced in Lebanon Amid Israeli Strikes: UN

**Geneva (TDI):** The United Nations says more than 370,000 children have been displaced in Lebanon within just three weeks, as intensified Israeli strikes trigger a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis.

According to UNICEF, the scale of displacement is “staggering,” with nearly 19,000 children forced from their homes every day. Many have already been displaced multiple times during earlier escalations over the past year.

The crisis has deepened since fighting expanded on March 2, when Israel launched heavy air strikes and ground operations in Lebanon following cross-border attacks by Hezbollah in support of Iran.

The UNHCR reports that more than one million people, roughly one in five residents, have fled their homes since the escalation began. Over 136,000 displaced individuals are now living in around 660 collective shelters, most of them overcrowded schools.

Aid agencies warn that conditions are deteriorating quickly. UN Women highlighted that pregnant women are being forced to give birth in temporary shelters with limited medical care, while officials stress that facilities like classrooms are not designed for prolonged displacement.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said the Lebanese Red Cross is working under immense pressure, providing essentials such as food, water, mattresses, and blankets. Between March 2 and 23, emergency teams carried out over 2,700 ambulance missions and multiple rescue operations, though one volunteer was killed and several others injured during relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have continued strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, saying they are targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. Lebanon’s state media reported fresh air raids in densely populated areas, with casualties including civilians.

In southern Lebanon, Hezbollah said its fighters engaged in direct clashes with Israeli troops in border villages, while also launching attacks across the frontier.

With violence intensifying and displacement rising sharply, UN agencies warn the situation in Lebanon is nearing a humanitarian catastrophe unless urgent support and de-escalation efforts are put in place.
