13th BRICS Summit

New Delhi, 7 September 2021 (TDI): Prime Minister India, Narendra Modi will chair the 13th Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) Summit on 9th September in a virtual setting. The theme of the Summit will be “BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS cooperation for continuity, consolidation, and consensus.”

As part of India’s ongoing chairing of BRICS in 2021, the forum will be attended by leaders including Jair Bolsonaro (President of Brazil), Vladimir Putin (President of Russia), Xi Jinping (President of China), and Cyril Ramaphosa (President of South Africa). 

At the Summit, the leaders will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and other current global and regional issues. Moreover, they will discuss the reforms under gloabal multilateralism, counter-terrorism, digital and technological tools for achieving SDGs, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

This year’s developments during the Summit will be presented by Shri Ajit Doval (India’s National Security Adviser), Marcos Troyjo (President of the New Development Bank), Shri Onkar Kanwar (Chair of the BRICS Business Council), and Sangita Reddy (Chair of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance).

Prime Minister Modi chaired the Goa Summit last 2016. Today, this will be the second time the country will host the BRICS Summit as chair.
