Dr. Victoria Fontan
Dr.Victoria is Head and Associate Professor, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the United Nations mandated University for Peace, Costa Rica. Her original specialization has been in insurgency studies, focusing on the role of humiliation in relation to the emergence of insurgencies, mostly in a Middle Eastern context. She has published on Lebanon and Iraq, and has worked on both countries for the first ten years of my academic career.
She is now shifting specializations from Critical Terrorism Studies towards developing a decolonizing approach to Peace and Conflict Studies, emerging from a post-liberal peace paradigm.
Dr.Victoria has been at the University for Peace since 2005, and has been involved various projects over the years. To date, she is the curriculum design co-ordinator for the UPeace Great Lakes Program, geared towards fostering capacity co-operation in Peace and Conflict Studies as well as Critical Pedagogy between ten African Academic Institutions and UPeace. This project is a direct application of her research on decolonizing peace. She is also involved in the development and management of the new UPeace Doctoral Program.
