DR AHMAD RASHID MALIK
Dr Ahmad Rashid MALIK earned his Doctorate from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, in 1998, and M.A. Degree from the International University of Japan, in 1989. Mitsubishi Corporation in Tokyo, Japan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra, Australia, sponsored his higher studies respectively. He did his Post-Doctoral Fellowship, sponsored by Korea Foundation, at the Economic Institute of Yonsei University, Seoul, Republic of Korea, in 1998.
Dr Malik’s area of interest is East Asia with a focus on international political economy. His research concentrates on Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, Oceania, and also generally the Asia-Pacific region. He regularly writes on current issues in English newspapers, magazines, and journals. Recently, Dr Malik has been awarded the Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship for one year (May 2010 – May 2011). As JF Fellow he conducted a research on The Operation Enduring Freedom-Maritime Interdiction Operation (OEF-MIO): Implications for Japan, United States, and the Region.
Besides an extensive teaching and research experience, Dr got numerous publications. Being the only expert on Pakistan-Japan relations, he is the author of the book Pakistan-Japan Relations: Continuity and Change in Economic Relations and Security Interests (London & New York: Routledge 2008). Up to recently Dr Malik worked for the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) during 2005-2010. Previously, he worked as Economic Analyst/Adviser for Daewoo International Pakistan.
Dr Malik has been awarded a number of international awards and received international recognitions for his work on international political economy that included: The Princeton High Professional Accomplishment Honour conferred by Princeton University, New Jersey, USA, for 2009-201o. His name was included in Strathmore’s Who’s Who, New York, USA, for 2009-2010, Presidential Who’s Who, Valley Stream, New York, USA, for 2009-2010, Heritage Who’s Who, Bellmore, New York, USA, for 2009-2010, Emerald Who’s Who, New York, USA, for 2009-2010, in the field of international political economy with a focus on Pakistan-Japan relations, Daewoo Executive, and role in development economy. Currently, he is affiliated with the Faculty of International Relations of Preston University, Islamabad, where he supervises M.Phil and PhD students.
